Kaolin Clay

The gentlest cosmetic clay — used in shave soap, face masks, and matte-finish styling products.

Kaolin clay is a naturally occurring silicate mineral, mined most famously from Cornwall, England (the original 'china clay'). In men's grooming, kaolin is the base of premium shave soap — it lubricates the razor's glide and holds a lather for the entire shave — and is the key mattifying ingredient in styling clays and pomades.

Key Facts
  • The gentlest cosmetic clay — safe for sensitive skin.
  • Base of most premium shave soaps.
  • Gives matte finish to styling clays.
  • Naturally white or slightly pink.
  • Absorbs excess oil without over-drying.
