Cocoa Butter
A rich, edible-grade butter that gives beard balms hold, shine, and long-lasting hydration.
Cocoa butter is the edible fat pressed from cocoa beans — the same material that gives chocolate its melt-in-your-mouth quality. In beard balm and mustache wax, cocoa butter provides structure and shine that softens on contact with skin temperature (melting point: 93–100°F, right at body temp).
- ›Melting point: 93–100°F (matches body temp).
- ›Rich in oleic, palmitic, and stearic acids.
- ›Comedogenic rating: 4 (moderate-high).
- ›Natural chocolate scent, always present in raw form.
- ›Storage: cool, dry — shelf life 2+ years.
Why cocoa butter is in beard balm but not beard oil
At room temperature, cocoa butter is solid. That's what gives beard balm its scoopable texture. It melts as you rub it between your palms, then re-solidifies slightly in the beard — providing medium hold without the crunch of wax-heavy products.
The Gold Standard Beard Balm uses cocoa butter alongside shea butter and beeswax as the structural trio.
