Cedarwood Essential Oil
A warm, woody essential oil traditionally used for beard growth support and grounded, masculine scent.
Cedarwood essential oil (Cedrus atlantica) is one of the most-used essential oils in men's grooming — for two reasons. First, its scent profile is universally masculine: dry, woody, slightly smoky, unmistakably grounded. Second, a well-known 1998 study found cedarwood, combined with rosemary, thyme, and lavender, significantly improved hair regrowth in alopecia patients. That makes cedarwood a rare essential oil with both fragrance and functional value in beard oil for men.
- ›1998 Aromatherapy study: significant hair regrowth vs placebo.
- ›Safe topical dilution: 0.5–1% in beard oil.
- ›Scent family: dry wood, base note.
- ›Blends well with fir, pine, sandalwood, vetiver.
- ›Native to the Atlas mountains of Morocco.
The scent role in Grizzly's Timberline and Black Ridge
Cedarwood is the woody backbone in both Timberline (paired with pine and fir) and Black Ridge (paired with clove and vetiver). It bridges the top notes and the base notes — without cedarwood, most 'outdoor' men's scents fall flat by hour four.
How much is safe on skin
Essential oils must be diluted. In beard oil, cedarwood is safe at up to 1% of the total formulation. Above 2% it can irritate sensitive skin under the beard.
