Black Ridge — A Scent Story

Black Ridge is the boldest fragrance we make — spicy black pepper over smoky oud, grounded in earthy vetiver and dark amber. It projects slightly more than the rest of the line, wears five to seven hours, and is built for evenings and cold weather.

Frequently asked

How strong is Black Ridge compared to the other scents?
It is the most assertive of the six, though still restrained by cologne standards. Oud and vetiver are naturally tenacious materials, so the dry-down lingers longer than Timberline or Midnight River. Start with fewer drops than usual and add more only if you want the presence.
When should I wear it?
Evenings, cold weather, and occasions where you want the beard to be part of the outfit. It is a heavier choice for a summer workday, where Midnight River or Northern Lights will feel cleaner.
What is oud, exactly?
Oud is resinous heartwood prized in perfumery for its deep, smoky, slightly leathery character. In Black Ridge it is used as an accent rather than the whole story, so the result stays wearable rather than overwhelming.

How Black Ridge is built

It opens with black pepper — dry, sharp and immediate — then settles into oud and vetiver over the first hour on skin. Vetiver is what gives it the earthy, almost mineral backbone; oud supplies the depth and the slight smokiness that keeps it from reading like a fresh fragrance. It is the darkest of the five profiles and the one people are most likely to comment on, which makes it the boldest choice in the range and the least safe blind guess as a gift.

When to wear it

It suits evenings, cold weather and anywhere you would wear a jacket rather than a t-shirt. In heat it amplifies, so if you wear it through summer use less and rely on the oil rather than layering wash, oil and balm together. Because everything is scented at grooming strength rather than cologne strength, it sits close to the skin and fades honestly across the day instead of projecting across a room — which is exactly why it layers cleanly under a cologne you already own.

What to pair it with

Black Ridge works best layered within its own range: the wash rinses away and contributes little, so the oil and the balm are the two steps that carry it. Pair it with the butter for winter, when the profile suits the season anyway. If you want the depth without the presence, run a fragrance-free wash underneath and let a single scented step do the work. If you find it too dark, Timberline is the same outdoor register with cedar and pine in place of pepper and oud.
